Princess Diaries 3Gets Exciting Update as Sequel Finds Director 20 Years After Last Installment

Disney has hired Adele Lim to direct the third film, according to multiplereports. Lim directed last year’s raunchy comedyJoy Ride, and she previously wrote the screenplays forCrazy Rich AsiansandRaya and the Last Dragon.

In April, Hathaway, 41, toldV Magazinethat “we’rein a good place,” in terms of developmenton the third installment. “That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place,” added the Oscar winner, who plays Mia Thermopolis in the films.

Still, theMary PoppinsOscar winner, 89, added, “I’d be very happy if we did do another one.”

Hathaway told PEOPLE in 2023it was “thrilling” to “see the level of excitement” fans had for apotential third flick. “It’s a process that requires patience, and so everybody should consider themselves a part of the movie business now, because this is how long it actually takes to make things.”

Another of Hathaway’s hits, 2006’sThe Devil Wears Prada, alsohas a long-awaited sequel in the works.
