Last Chance for Animals(LCA) is celebrating 40 years of giving animals second chances.

The international nonprofit organization, founded in 1984, is dedicated to exposing and ending animal exploitation.

“It’s a big undertaking what we did. They said it would take 40, 45 years, 50 years to accomplish it. We did it in 8 years,” LCA’s founder and president, Chris DeRose, tells PEOPLE of the dog meat industry ban.

Presley was on hand to help LCA mark four decades of fighting for animals in need atthe Last Chance for Animals' 40th Anniversary Gala, which occurred at Paramount Studios' New York Backlot on Oct. 19.

Fellow famous animal loversCorey Feldman, Scott Bakula, Taryn Manning,Erin Murphy,Sam Asghari, and more joined Presley in marking LCA’s achievements.

“There’s been a lot of milestones,” De Rose says of LCA’s 40-year history, noting the organization helped reform animal research.

“We help put the very first people in prison for stealing people’s pets and companion animals and selling them for experiments. So that was the first big victory. We did many other things since then,” he adds.

Feldman, a dedicated supporter of LCA, agrees.

“Chris is an amazing man. He’s been a soldier for so long, and every year, there’s these great accomplishments, these things that they do that really blow you away. And what they did this year, of course, in South Korea, mind-blowing historical,” Feldman says.

While LCA is taking time to acknowledge the progress it has helped shepherd into the welfare space, it shows no signs of slowing down. According to the nonprofit, after its dog meat ban victory, it’s focused on helping captive marine mammals and animals in the rodeo industry.
