Sam Huntand Hannah Lee Fowler have weathered many ups and downs since their wedding in 2017.

The couple share two children: daughterLucy Louise, whom they welcomed in May 2022, and sonLowry Lee, who arrived in October 2023. In November 2024, Hunt announced that they areexpecting their third childin May 2025.

2008: Sam Hunt and Hannah Lee Fowler first start dating

The couple reportedly met sometime in 2008 and dated off-and-on-again for a few years. Hunt even named his debut albumMontevalloafter her hometown in Alabama. Hunt previously played football for the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2005 to 2007, which is likely how they crossed paths.

“I didn’t actually live in that town,“he told E! Newsabout the meaning behind his 2014 album name. “I had never visited Montevallo, but right before I left to go to Nashville I met a girl from there. A lot of the experiences I had with her and the relationship I had with her, that inspired a lot of the songwriting on the album.”

The couple eventually split sometime after, but got back together in 2016. “I think last summer I went out [to Hawaii] about seven times in about three months,” Hunt toldEntertainment Tonightin 2017. “Trying to talk to her about coming back. And the seventh trip I convinced her.”

August 2015: Sam Hunt acknowledges Hannah Lee Fowler’s influence on his debut album

While speaking toBillboardabout the songs on his debut album, 2014’sMontevallo, Hunt acknowledged that Fowler, whoBillboarddescribed as “a dark-haired beauty who rides horses and studied nursing,” influenced the songs on the album.

Hunt toldBillboard, “I spent a lot of time talking to her about the songs and asking, ‘What do you think about this?’ Her perspective was a powerful part of me being able to connect with a female audience, not just a male audience.”

June 8, 2016: Sam Hunt says he’s “single”

Hunt replied, “I am [single]. It’s the beginning of the summer . . . I am.”

August 2016: Sam Hunt and Hannah Lee Fowler spark on-again relationship rumors

After Hunt posted a video of a then-unknown woman on Instagram, speculation on his love life flared untilEntertainment Tonightreported that a source confirmed that he was in a relationship with a former girlfriend, who was later revealed to be Fowler.

Photos seemingly confirmed the on-again relationship between Hunt and Fowler when they were spotted together in Hawaii.

“Something came up that irritated her and I realized this may mess up my big plan to ask her to marry me that night, and it kind of agitated me more about this issue,” he said. “It turned into this kind of fight that, fortunately, led to the perfect opportunity to ask her to marry me. So this little altercation we had actually worked out. It was a special moment.”

January 27, 2017: Sam Hunt releases “Drinkin' Too Much” about his relationship with Hannah Lee Fowler

Around the same time their engagement was announced, Hunt released his single “Drinkin' Too Much” about Fowler. In the lyrics, he opens up about the ups and downs of their relationship.

“I’m sorry I named the album Montevallo / I’m sorry people know your name now and strangers hit you up on social media,” he sings. “I’m sorry you can’t listen to the radio / I know you want your privacy / You’ve got nothing to say to me / But I wish you’d let me pay off your student loans with these songs you gave to me.”

In April 2017, the newly engaged couple made one of their first public appearances together at the Academy of Country Music Awards.Hunt even shared a moment with Fowlerduring his performance of “Body Like a Back Road” as he went up to her in the audience and put his arm around her.

A few weeks after their ACMs appearance,Hunt and Fowler officially tied the knotduring an intimate ceremony in Georgia.

May 21, 2017: Sam Hunt and Hannah make their red carpet debut as a married couple

In May 2017, the newlyweds made their first red carpet appearance as a married couple as they attended the Billboard Music Awards.

While on the red carpet,Hunt opened up about married lifeto E! News, saying, “It feels great.” He added that “there’s a spiritual strength” to wearing his wedding band, noting, “I feel a little bit taller now that I’m wearing it.”

In 2018, the couple returned to the Billboard Music Awards, where Hunt took home top country song for “Body Like a Back Road.” During his speech,he gave his wife a shoutout, saying, “Thank you for being so selfless this past year, sacrificing so much for me and our future.”

July 2021: Sam Hunt talks about starting a family with Hannah Lee Fowler

During an appearance onKISS Country 99.9 Miami’s TC & Dina radio show, Hunt opened up about wanting to start a family with Fowler.

“I hope so. We’ve been talking about it for a while, but we’ve really started thinking about it seriously here these past few months, so that’s on the agenda right now. And I’m hoping that we’ll have some good news sooner than later,” he said.

February 18, 2022: Hannah Lee Fowler files for divorce from Sam Hunt

In February 2022, Fowler filed for divorce from Hunt, citing infidelity as the reason, according toTMZ. Though the couple had not previously announced they were expecting, the documents also reveal that Fowler is pregnant and due in May. Fowler is reportedly asking for alimony, child support and primary custody of the child, as well as for each party to be “awarded their respective separate property.”

PerTMZ, Fowler initially filed the divorce documents in the incorrect county and withdrew and later refiled.

April 2022: Hannah Lee Fowler calls off her divorce from Sam Hunt

“They are doing their best every day,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Sam and his wife are continually looking forward to the next chapter. He’s just thinking about his family and what’s to come.”

May 2022: Sam Hunt and Hannah Lee Fowler welcome their first child together

On the joy that Lucy Lu has brought to his life, Hunt added, “I think being out here, and in the music business and being out on the road, has sort of hardened my heart. My heart’s definitely a lot harder in a lotta ways since I left that small town. It’s amazing how that little girl melted that all away overnight a couple of weeks ago.”

September 9, 2022: Sam Hunt says becoming a dad gave him “a sense of purpose”

During an appearance on Audacy’sKatie & Companypodcast, the country singer opened up aboutbecoming a dadand called fatherhood “a life-changing deal, a bucket-list deal.”

“[Fatherhood] has given me such a sense of purpose — at home and out on the road. A new appreciation for life in general. I think I leveled up overnight, evolved 10 or 20 years overnight,” the country singer said.

Hunt also said he is looking forward to having more kids with Fowler. “I waited until having my first one, but I’m trying to have as many as I can before I age out, before we age out,” he added.

Hunt announced the arrival of the couple’ssecond child,Lowry Lee, exactly one month after his son’s birth.

“Thank You Lord,” he wrote alongside a sweet family photo. A rep for Hunt later confirmed to PEOPLE that Lowry was born on Oct. 24, 2023.

April 7, 2024: Sam Hunt and Hannah Lee Fowler attend the CMT Awards

The couple walked the red carpet at theCMT Awardsin Austin, Texas. Later that evening, Hunt performed his single “Locked Up,” which many say is an ode to Fowler.

November 20, 2024: Sam Hunt announces he and Hannah Lee Fowler are expecting their third child

During an appearance on Audacy’sKatie & Companypodcast, Hunt revealed that he and Fowler are expecting their third child in May 2025, and that he’s “elated” about the news — and so is their daughter, Lucy.

Hunt added that with three small kids in their home in the near future, he’s hoping to “take a break from touring.”

“The crowds have been so great and I want to get out there and tour while my kids are really young and they’re able to come with me … and while people are interested in coming to see us because I don’t want to take that for granted,” he said.
