On Aug. 26, Netflix debuted thefirst trailerforEmilia Pérez,a Spanish-language French film.
A synopsis for the movie, which describes it as “an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations,” says Gascón, 52, stars as a cartel leader in Mexico who tries to fake her death. Saldaña, 46, and Gomez, 32, also star alongside Adriana Paz and Edgar Ramírez.
The movie made its world premiere at the 2024Cannes Film Festivalin May. Adescription of the filmfrom that festival indicates that Gascón plays a character who transitions as they approach retirement.

“The fearsome cartel leader Emilia enlists Rita (Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self.”

On Aug. 19, Gomez shared a video of themoment she found out she was castin the movie onInstagram, showing her holding back tears immediately after getting the call.
“I can’t believe I got the movie! I’m so gonna cry right now, I don’t want to cry,” she can be heard saying in the footage.
