Shailene Woodley Says 'Broken Heart' Taught Her to Cut Off Bad Partners: 'I Wish You Well. Not Interested'

In her recent interview withBustleto promote her upcoming Starz limited seriesThree Women, Woodley, 32, expressed her disinterest in pretense, telling the outlet she came to that realization after suffering from “a broken heart."

“I give all of myself,” she said. “I used to be a person who, if you crossed me and disrespected that, would continue to give and give. And now you cross me, I respectfully go, ‘Thank you so much for that information. Have a beautiful life. I wish you well.’ Not interested.”

Woodley costars with DeWanda Wise and Betty Gilpin inThree Women, adapted from author Lisa Taddeo’s 2019 novel of the same name.

PEOPLE reported that Woodley and her ex-fiancéAaron Rodgersbroke upin February 2022after one year of dating. The former couple briefly reconciled beforesplitting againin April 2022.

“It’s really taken me a lot of time to understand that it’s not on me to fix or heal or do anything about [a relationship] other than protect the deep care and love that I have for the world and for my people,” Woodley toldBustle. “Ultimately, that has helped me walk away without the need to understand why certain things didn’t play out the way that I may have desired them to.“Back in January 2023, Woodley described the time she spent filming the new series as one of the “darkest” periods in her life while speaking withNet-a-Porter’s digital titlePORTER.

“It was hard to film because I was going through the darkest, hardest time in my life; it was winter in New York, andmy personal life was s—-, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months,” she said at the time. “I was so grateful that at least I could go to work and cry and process my emotions through my character.”
