Simone Biles’ husbandJonathan Owenscouldn’t be happier for his wife’s achievements.

The Chicago Bears safety spoke to PEOPLE while at the Paris Olympics after head coach Matt Eberflus allowed him tonegotiate time off from the team’s required training campto support his wife.
“I’m confident in her ability. Obviously you still have to go out there and do it, but I was confident that she would,”Owens told PEOPLE, adding, “as the world saw, man, she didn’t disappoint.”
The NFL player added that he was thankful for the experience.
“It was an unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I’m just so thankful I was able to go and just witness her continue to make history,” he said. “I’m just so proud.”

On Monday, Team USA’s Instagram account also made a special post to highlight Biles’ wins.
“Cemented in history,” the account wrote. “@simonebilesends her#ParisOlympicsas the second most decorated women’s gymnast of all time.”
The photo showed a smiling Biles holding up one of her gold medals after a competition, underneath was a breakdown of her wins: 7 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
During a press conference after her events, Biles reflected on her time competing.

“I’ve accomplished waymore than my wildest dreams, not just as this Olympics, but in this sport,” she said. “I can’t be mad at my performances. A couple of years ago I didn’t think I’d be back here at an Olympic game.”
“Competing and then walking away with four medals, I’m not mad about it,” Biles added of her comeback. “I’m pretty proud of myself, and it’s always so exciting to compete.”
