TheTODAYcontributor, 48, and the Ethos Capital founder, whotied the knot on Sept. 10, 2022, “are quietly divorcing,” a source tells PEOPLE.

The split comes over a year after Martin shared that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2023, shortly after she tested positive for theBRCA gene— which links to a significantly higher possibility of developing breast or ovarian cancer.

“Jill is focused on getting healthy and making a difference. She’s launching a new initiative onTODAYOct. 1 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And she’s starting a new business this month,” the source adds.

At the time of her diagnosis, Martin told PEOPLE that she was"grateful" her illness cameafter her and Brooks' wedding. She believed her “life will be defined [as] before and after the diagnosis,” Martin said, adding that she was “grateful” the diagnosis occurred after their wedding because it “was such a purely happy event.”

“I feel like this is a new chapter with a new journey,” Martin added. “[But] that’s not bad because I am going to take this. It will just be different.”

She said in apersonal essaypublished last August thatcancer “knocked me down,“after her double mastectomy, however, she was determined “to fight.”
