There was a surprise miniScandalreunion at theDemocratic National Conventionin Chicago on Thursday, Aug. 22.
Kerry Washington, 47, took the stage to deliver a speech as the host of the evening’s events in the lead-up toKamala Harris, 59, acceptingthe Democratic Party’s nominationfor president.
“I am the one standing on this stage but I am not the lead character in this story,” Washington told the crowd, telling voters, “You are.”
“You are the fixers, dare I say it, you are the Olivia Popes,” the actress added, referencing her crisis management expertScandalcharacter, while voters cheered.
“You are the superheroes saving this democracy, it is you! Not me… who have the greatest power to convince your loved ones to vote,” Washington continued to tell the audience.

Urging the crowd to take out their phones to film a video, Washington then asked someone to bring hers over so she could “capture this historic moment,” which is whenTony Goldwyn— who starred as President Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant in the political drama — appeared on stage.
Washington encouraged people to share any clips of the moment filmed on social media, as she later did onInstagram.

The former costars then shouted “When we fight,” as the crowd chanted back, “We win” (Harris’rallying message) several times, before Washington asked the crowd if they were ready “for Kamala Harris to win,” adding as they cheered, “Good, because when Kamala wins, America wins.”
She then filmed the crowd with her phone and nodded to Harris' phone call with President Joe Biden after his2020 presidential election win, saying, “We did it…” apparently referring to the DNC crowd completing the chant and videos, adding, “We did it, Joe.”
Goldwyn then questioned whether he should stay on stage, to which Washington responded, “No, you gotta go… Tony Goldwyn, ladies and gentlemen!”
“The Original 🎥 #WhenWeFightWeWin #DNC2024,” Washington captioned a video shared on Instagram.
The actress also posed for two further photos with Goldwyn, who hosted Monday night’s DNC, which she sharedon X(formerly known as Twitter).
“Giving the people what they want @tonygoldwyn #ForDemocracy #DMC #Olitz,” Washington captioned the images.
Goldwyn also added a photo of the pair on hisInstagram Stories, writing, “Serious business being done with @kerrywashington at #DNCChicago!!!”
During Washington’s appearance, she had a little help from Harris' great-nieces Amara and Leela to give people a lesson on how topronounce the U.S. vice president’s name properly.

“It’s come to my attention that there are some folks who struggle, or pretend to struggle, with the proper pronunciation of our future president’s name,” Washington said of Harris, before bringing out the two girls, who explained how you say the name as, “Comma-Luh.”
