Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson Take ‘Perfect’ First Family Vacation with Son Rome: See Photos (Exclusive)

TheDancing with the Starscouple recently jetted off toBeachesresort in Turks and Caicos for the milestone trip with their 19-month-old son, Rome. PEOPLE got an exclusive look inside their “perfect” island getaway, including some of the fun-filled activities they enjoyed together.

“Family is everything to us. The chance to celebrate and relax in the gorgeous Turks and Caicos with Rome and my parents is truly a gift,” Chmerkovskiy, 38, tells PEOPLE. “My parents love our son and love spending every possible minute with him.”

When it came to flying with their little one, the married professional dancers did not feel nervous or overwhelmed as their son is already a “smooth” traveler, they shared.

“We travel quite a bit for work and we’ve taken Rome everywhere with us. He’s quite a traveler already and we feel very comfortable with him coming along,” they tell PEOPLE. “We didn’t want parenthood to stop us from enjoying ourselves, it’s just now we enjoy ourselves with Rome. It’s the best.”

The pair add that Rome has already been on “over 25 flights” with them because ofDWTSand their residency withSAVORin Chicago.

As for the activities they did together as a family, they were “most looking forward to the water park that Beaches is known for” and “to just relax all together.”

“The lazy river and the waterslides are a must,” they note of the resort’sPirate’s Island Waterpark. Photos from their trip also show the family enjoying the Sesame Street Parade at the resort.

Johnson, 30, adds that because her husband is more of a “beach person,” they spent a majority of their time “playing in the beautiful sand and swimming in the crystal clear Caribbean water.”

They also made sure to explore the island’s vibrant sea life during a snorkeling excursion, enjoy a treatment at the resort’sRed Lane Spa, and share many meals together as a family.

The couple say they chose the hotel for their first family getaway because “it’s a quality resort that is also kid-friendly. Now that we are a family of three, it was a perfect place to go where we can all have a good time.”

For their next vacation, Chmerkovskiy and Johnson say they’ve been eyeing Jamaica, however that trip likely won’t happen until afterseason 33 ofDWTS(premiering Sept. 17 on ABC).

They hit another important milestone in their relationship whenthey welcomed Rome, their first child together on Jan. 10, 2023.
