A viral artwork of a yellow banana duct-taped to a wall has sold for $6.24 million.
“This is not just an artwork,” Sun said afterward, per CNN. “It represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community. I believe this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and will become a part of history.”

PEOPLEpreviously reportedabout the artwork back in 2019 when it was presented at Art Basel Miami Beach for $120,000.
The work was reportedly created with a banana that was purchased at a grocery store. Gallery founder Emmanuel Perrotin told CNN at the time that the piece represented how bananas are “a symbol of global trade, a double entendre, as well as a classic device for humor.”
