Bret Baierand his wife, Amy Baier, have been married for over two decades.

Despite living in different places, the couple began dating long-distance, including while Bret was on assignments in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A year later, they were engaged, and almost exactly two years after meeting, exchanged wedding vows. Since then, Bret and Amy have welcomed two sons: Paul and Daniel.

So who is Bret Baier’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Amy Baier and her relationship with the political commentator.

Amy grew up outside of Chicago with three brothers

Amy was born to Paul and Barbie Hills, and she grew up in a suburb outside of Chicago with three brothers, including her twin, Danny.

Growing up, Amy took an interest in tennis and became an accomplished player.

She worked in fashion before pivoting to healthcare

After graduating from high school, Amy attended Southern Methodist University in Texas and earned a degree in communication.

When she completed her studies, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in fashion and worked as a media planner for Calvin Klein. Amy eventually returned home to Chicago and entered the healthcare field like the rest of her family.

“After 9/11, my lease soon ran out and I went back to Chicago to work in a neuroscience retail division at Eli Lilly," she toldNaples Illustrated. “My family was in the health care business, so switching gears made sense.”

She and Bret were introduced on a blind date

Reflecting in his book,Special Heart, Bret recalled connecting with Amy and “talking, laughing, and bantering” with her.

The couple went on to date long distance while Bret worked in Washington D.C. and took assignments abroad. On weekends, Bret would fly to Chicago to be with Amy.

They married in 2004

After a year of dating long-distance, Bret and Amy got engaged over Thanksgiving weekend in 2003. He arranged a dinner with both of their families and later that evening, he proposed to her.

Bret and Amy wed onOct. 9, 2004, in Chicago, nearly two years after they first met.

They share two children

Several years into their marriage, Bret and Amy learned they were expecting their first child.

Bret and Amy welcomed their son Paul Francis Baier on June 29, 2007, named after Amy’s father.

When Paul was a day old, he underwent complicated heart surgery after five congenital heart defects were discovered. He continues to deal with congenital heart disease today, following several more procedures.

“We have a saying in the Baier family that ‘gratitude is the attitude,’ ” Amy told PEOPLE in May 2024. “We learned that from Paul. Because it’s much easier when you focus on all the things you’re grateful for, rather than what is difficult.”

They welcomed their second child together, sonDaniel Bret Baier, on July 10, 2010.

Amy is on the board of Children’s National Hospital Foundation

For over 15 years, Amy has been a board member of the Children’s National Hospital Foundation, the healthcare facility that has been treating Paul since he was an infant.

She is currently chair of the board and also serves on the hospital’s board of directors.

“It opened our eyes to children’s health,” AmytoldDCmagazineof Paul’s heart condition. “We believe that all kids deserve the same healthcare regardless of their ability to pay."

She continued, “The fundraising we do at Children’s National ensures all kids who walk through the hospital door get the care they need. Children’s National saved Paul’s life.”

In addition to working with the hospital, Amy is involved in other philanthropic organizations, including the Kennedy Center, where she’s a member of theNational Committee for Performing Arts, and theNational Museum of Women in the Arts.
