Saoirse Ronanand Jack Lowden have kept their relationship low-key.

TheLittle Womenactressrecently tied the knotwith the Scottish actor in a secret ceremony in July 2024. The private wedding aligned with how the duo has handled their relationship since first sparking romance rumors. Despite their respective lives in the public eye, they’ve opted to keep their love life out of the spotlight.

Lowden was questioned about romance rumors with Ronan in February 2019, though he kept mum on the topic. “Oh I’m not going to talk about that. I don’t like talking about that side of life,” he said in an interview withES Magazinewhen asked.

While it’s unclear when the pair began dating, they’ve known each other since at least 2018 having worked together on a film. At the time, Lowden praised Ronan’s talents when doing press for the movie.

Since then, the couple has made a handful of public appearances together, including attending theAustralian Open in 2022. Lowden has also featured Ronan on hisInstagram.

Theirfirst appearance together as a married couplehappened two months after their wedding at the76th annual Primetime Emmy Awardsin September 2024. Ronan and Lowden walked the red carpet in coordinating blue outfits.

He’s a Scottish actor

Lowden was born on June 2, 1990, in Chelmsford, a city in Essex, England. He grew up in the small, rural Scottish village of Oxton.

Lowden continued to act throughout high school and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London during the summer. He landed leading roles at various theaters as a teen before going on to receive his bachelor’s degree in acting from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow in 2011.

He has acting credits in film and theater

Among Lowden’s roles on stage include Cammy in a revival of the Olivier Award-winning playBlack Watch(which toured across Europe and the United States from 2010 to 2011), Eric Liddell in a 2012 stage adaptation ofChariots of Fireand Oswald in Richard Eyre’s 2013 adaptationGhosts(which earned him an Olivier Award and the Ian Charleson Award).

He costarred in a movie with Saoirse

Lowden and Ronan previously costarred in 2018’sMary Queen of Scots. He portrayed Lord Darnley alongside her Mary Stuart.

At the time, Lowden praised Ronan’s acting talents when doing press for the film in December 2018. During a panel withAOLat the time, the actor said, “It was remarkable working with Saoirse.”

“The woman is a force of nature on and off screen, and utterly fearless and a brilliant leader as well. For being 24 years old, it’s just constantly amazing to me, not just her work but how she is on a set is amazing,” he added.

He married Saoirse in July 2024

The publication also noted that “all the guests were sworn to secrecy” during the ceremony, which occurred at Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office, located at the City Chambers, per the outlet.

Ronanopened up to PEOPLE in 2022about Lowden’s talents. She spoke about her respect for his work and how they “have very similar tastes,” adding that she “completely [trusted] his eye.”

“And I know when he says something’s working, it really is, because he doesn’t ever sugarcoat anything,” theFoeactressadded at the time. “So I think that really helps, having someone that you really trust. And he’s a sort of typical Scot, where if there’s a problem, he’s the first one to try and solve it.”
