Wife Whose Husband Drugged Her So Dozens of Men Could Rape Her Storms Out of Courtroom

A court in the French southern town of Avignon is trying Dominique Pelicot, a 71-year-old retiree, for repeatedly raping and enlisting dozens of strangers to rape his heavily sedated wife in her own bed over a decade. Fifty other men, aged between 26 and 74, are also on trial for alleged involvement, in a case that has horrified France. The court proceedings, which runs until December, are open to the public at the request of Dominique Pelicot’s ex-wife and victim.

Gisèle Pelicot, the French woman whose husbandadmittedto drugging her andinviting dozens of men to rape her, walked out of court at one point during trial proceedings as one of her alleged assaulters testified.

Pelicot’s husband, Dominique Pelicot, 71, previously said he had been drugging Gisèle, 72, and filming the rapes for nearly a decade from 2011 to 2020, according toThe Timesof London.

Gisèle has been present during the case’s court proceedings, which have made international news, and has been insistent that the public see the videos of her being assaulted and that her name not be shielded, according to theBBC.

The Times,the BBC as well as French outletLe Monde,reported that during the man’s testimony, Gisèle at one point walked out of the courtroom.

“I can’t stand that man,” she reportedly said, according toThe Times.

Prosecutors previously said Dominique was arrested in December 2020 after police seized his electronics while investigating him for filming up the skirts of three women.

The New York Timesreported around 20,000 videos and photographs of the abuse were allegedly found on his devices after they were seized.

Dominique has never denied his guilt, his attorney previously said, according to Reuters.
