A window washer found himself in need of a rescue after getting stuck hanging off the tallest building in Kansas City.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) arrived at One Kansas City Place around 10:15 a.m. local time after receiving a call that a window washer at the building had experienced equipment failure and was stuck between the 24th and 25th floors, according to a statement from the KCFD shared with PEOPLE.

Officials said that the man’s main line became jammed and he was unable to move in any direction, which resulted in him hanging between the floors of One Kansas City Place, which has 42 floors.

Members from the Rescue Division, Rescue 1 and Rescue 31, then deployed firefighters to the roof and to the 25th floor, fire officials said in their statement.

One of those involved in the rescue was Lucas Berry, of Santa Fe Glass, who was already at the building for other work when he got the call to assist in helping the window washer get down.

By requesting the assistance of workers from Santa Fe Glass, firefighters were able to quickly rescue the window washer without having to put personnel over the roof of the building or hoist the individual over 20 floors from the outside.

Rescue officials “applied a safety line to the worker’s harness and pulled him up and through the window,” KCFD said in their statement.

In total, the daring rescue was said to have only taken 30 minutes and that the window washer was “very calm” throughout the ordeal and made it through without injury, officials added.
