Woman Says She Won't Attend Daughter's Wedding After She's Asked to Sit Next to Photo of Late Ex-Husband

A woman is stirring conversation online after sharing that her soon-to-be-married daughter wants her to sit next to a photo of her late husband at the wedding — but the woman isn’t interested.In a post shared onReddit, the woman writes that she and her husband “didn’t have a good relationship.““He struggled with alcoholism and ultimately drank himself to death after I divorced him,” she adds. “After some time, I remarried, but my daughter doesn’t get along with my new husband. I also learned she wanted me to sit with a picture at the family table [at the reception] and my husband wouldn’t be sitting there either.“When the woman told her daughter “no,” the two started fighting.“She got upset and said I was being selfish and disrespectful to her and her father’s memory. I told her that if that’s her plan, I won’t be able to attend the wedding,” she writes. “She called me a jerk and now family is involved.“Reddit commenters say the woman isn’t in the wrong.“Of course she wants to remember her dad and have him present at her wedding. I’m sure the loss is painful and significant as she approaches this important day,” writes one. “But having you sit next to a photo, especially considering you history with him, is ghoulish.“Adds another: “It is great that she wants to remember/honor her dad, but it’s like she wants him there as your date. My parents are divorced, mostly get along and I wouldn’t seat them at the same table at my wedding unless they both agreed to it.”

She continues: “I told her that I’m not comfortable with that arrangement. I also learned she wanted me to sit with a picture at the family table [at the reception] and my husband wouldn’t be sitting there either.”

When the woman told her daughter “no,” the two started fighting.
